Heated Desks Sales Rocket as Energy Crisis Intensifies.
As the energy crisis looks set to stay put for the next couple of years, people at home and at work are looking to reduce their energy bills and save some money. One innovative solution, heated desks from ökoform, is already clocking in record sales as we settle into autumn.
Dorset-based ökoform launched into the public arena on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den in March this earlier this year, and while founder, Peter Waine, didn’t win any investment from the Dragons, he has gone on to win the Green Hero Award from Channel 4’s Grand Designs which raised the brand’s profile enough to gain national stockists on Amazon, Wayfair, and most recently announced, office suppliers, Staples.
It was during his 15-year career in commercial office & interior design that Peter noticed problems with heating in the workplace: “When I was in these offices, I often saw arguments about the temperature in the office, some people wanted to be in a warmer working environment, while others preferred it cooler – I think most of us have seen this, the 'thermostat war'!”
It was with this in mind that that Peter began working on the design for a heated desk and ökoform was born. Realising the huge money-saving potential of the heated desks that heat the person rather than the room, office, or house, Peter patented the design.
“Our desks perform really well in shared offices where workers can warm themselves if they're not happy with the temperature of the office. And they’re also fantastic for homeworkers, it's a great solution if you're working in a cold room and don't want the expense of using a fan heater or heating the entire house – something that’s at the front of everyone’s minds right now.”
“By the time you're done making a cup of tea, your ökoform desk will already be warm and helping you to save money on your electricity and gas.”
The secret to ökoform’s success has been in its real cost saving proven by independent studies from Brighton University which found the desks to be 90% cheaper to run than having a fan heater in the room.
“Fighting over the thermostat will be a thing of the past.” Peter continues “Our desks let you control your temperature. It's cost-saving. It's energy-saving. It's your new best friend at work.”
