In 2020, Lisa’s Sports Events Management & Consultancy Company, Breakthrough Events, was impacted by coronavirus as events were cancelled or postponed. As a result, Lisa spent more time enjoying the outdoors rather than working in it, but all the activity began to take a toll on her skin. Frustrated with the lack of natural skincare products aimed specifically at people who spend a lot of time outdoors, and making use of her skills, extra free time, experience of the outdoors and connections, Lisa set-up homemadeADVENTURES. 

Lisa continues: ‘I scoured the internet to find natural products that were tried, tested and trusted to stand up to the elements and the long periods of time I spent outside, but I couldn’t find anything. There were plenty of places offering natural, eco-friendly skincare products and, equally, lots of places selling products designed for outdoor enthusiasts, but nowhere combined the two. That’s when homeadeADVENTURES was born. 

‘I know how important it is to have specialist skincare products that can withstand the elements and the stress you’re putting your body through. Wind, rain, sweat, all mean skincare products have to work harder. It’s essential for both professional athletes and people who do outdoor activities just for fun to find something that works for them. Not only because it’s important to take care of your body in general, but also because you perform at your best when you feel comfortable and protected. Sunburn, chafing and dry skin are all things that can hold you back, and you might not even realise! 

 ‘Specialised skin care products are also really important for outdoor enthusiasts because you need to use things that will work well with your gear. I’ve heard countless stories of people using creams on their necks when surfing or swimming to prevent irritation only to find that the product has deteriorated the wetsuit and discovered that they’re also contaminating the ocean! With natural products that have been tried and tested in the outdoors this doesn’t happen.’ 

 ‘Most of the products I could find online were packed with harsh, synthetic chemicals that I wanted to steer clear of. I wanted natural products that used ethical, sustainable ingredients but were still able to stand up to the elements and my lifestyle. I just couldn’t find a website that sold them all in one place, so I decided to make one.’ 

The products available at homemadeADVENTURES have all been personally tested by Lisa and chosen to help customers protect, repair and maintain their skin, using only natural ingredients. The site lists products according to activity and separates products into use before, during or after an outdoor adventure. ‘You need to use different products depending on what you’re doing and where you’re going’, continues Lisa, ‘it’s not a one size fits all situation, so I wanted to offer as many options as possible to suit every person and activity.’  

Using sustainable, ethically sourced ingredients, and delivered in completely plastic-free packaging, the products available at homemadeADVENTURES are also designed to protect the planet, something Lisa is passionate about: ‘I’m very aware we’re damaging nature by stripping the earth of its natural resources and dumping an unsustainable amount of waste into landfill, which is contributing to climate change. It’s our collective responsibility to try and fix the damage we’ve caused, and shopping more conscientiously is just one small step we can make. We need to act now to save the outdoors we love, or it won’t be there to enjoy much longer.’
