New Sustainability Fayre Coming to Southbourne.
Three Southbourne organisations have teamed up to bring BCP Eco Sobo, a brand-new sustainability fayre, coming to Southbourne’s Fisherman’s Walk. Organised by Southbourne’s Warrior Agency – an ethical PR agency, Stir Events CIC – the organisers of Shake & Stir festival, and SOBO Wastebusters - a local group supporting more sustainable living including the Plastic Free Southbourne campaign, Eco Sobo will host a range of exciting activities and stalls, showcasing the best tips and tricks to living more sustainably.
Lizzie McManus, Founder of Warrior Agency, says: ‘Eco Sobo will showcase sustainable solutions for homes and businesses. From veggie growing workshops to stalls for eco-friendly products round the home, an electric vehicle show, vegan and local food, local drinks and live music, Eco Sobo aims to help all of us as we try to live more sustainably.’
The Eco Sobo team are keen to make the fayre an enjoyable and useful event for everyone who is keen to live a more sustainable lifestyle at home or at work and lessen their impact on the planet as Mandy Polkey, Managing Director of Stir Events CIC, explains: ‘Most sustainability fayres focus on businesses with a strong B2B focus, we’re building an event that looks at what businesses can offer the community as well as other businesses. This will be quite a different event from other Stir events as we’re aiming to inspire, educate, inform and entertain – all as sustainably as possible. We want to help shape our community and prepare it for the future, we’d like to include and bring back old skills and integrate them into the fayre with workshops so people can learn new skills themselves, get things fixed, and become more self-sufficient.
‘We’ll be making sure the fayre itself is as ‘green’ as it can be with only vegan and locally produced food and drink stalls, hybrid generators, and a single-use plastic free policy. We’re hoping it can become a blueprint – or greenprint if you will – for other events who want to run a sustainable event in the future.’
Eco Sobo will be taking place Saturday 18th May 2024, and although it is just for one day, the team hope that people will find Eco Sobo useful all year round as Rosie Edwards, Co-founder of SOBO Wastebusters explains: ‘We’re passionate about supporting the community and helping everyone lessen their impact on the environment. So, with that in mind, we’ll be providing a library of free resources online which will be available to anyone and will include tips and information across all areas of interest. For example, we have ideas for plastic-free swaps around the home, how to and where to do waste-free grocery shopping, active travel ideas and so much more.
‘This event is all about the community, we know how much everyone cares about the environment and where we live, and all we want to do is help people turn that into action.’
